projectors

At the last board meeting, some discussion came up about multimedia projectors.  Should the club buy one?

Having done a little research, there are some HD projectors Consumers Reports likes a lot but they start at 1K.  Older tech VGA models can be had for $400 tax free and free shipping from B and H Photo. They have 5 models/brands for $400.  Prices start at $429 for a newer technology (brighter and more detailed picture) XGA.  They have 9 models/brands between $400 and $500.  So, there are tons of options.  And of course bulbs are $200 to $400.  Must folks who buy less expensive versions throw them away when the bulb goes and get a new machine with better/brighter technology.

Any ideas/suggestions?

If we get one we should at least go for an XGA, even though VGAs are a little less expensive.

Re: projectors

I don't know if we can justify an HD model.  XGA sounds right.  Any models get better recommendations by Consumer Reports or other rating services?

Re: projectors

I think it is a no brainer as far as the club owning one. We use one pretty much every meeting of the year and it is not right that we use Mike and Larrys all the time. We are shortening the life of there projector bulbs. thanks for doing the research Kendall on the projectors, I think we can trust your research and judgement on which ones would be best.  If you have time, it would be great if you could propose a few and then we decide at the next meeting whether we all feel this is a worth while investment.

Re: projectors

Hi!  I don't mind using my projector for the meetings and other club business.  After all, one of the major reasons for my purchasing one was to use for club business.  Thanks and tight lines, mike buss
