Club Trip to Kiptopeake State Park

Hi!  Our annual club wading trip to Kiptopeake State Park will take place on Sunday, June 22.  We will be gathering to car pool in the parking lot next to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel toll plaza at 4:00 am and leaving at 4:15 am.  Sunrise at Kiptopeake on June 22 is 5:44 am and that should give us time to travel over and get ready to be on the water at sunrise.  Low tide on June 22 is at 5:12 am and hi tide 11:10 am.  This should give us a rising tide all morning which should be good fishing as I have found the best times to fish Kiptopeake to be at first light on a rising tide.  Members should bring a 6 or 7 weight rod if you have it, if not, just bring what you have.  You will need a sinking line or a sinking tip to get down to the grass just off the beach where you will find the fish.  You don't need a long leader, just 3' or so with a clouser or shrimp pattern in sizes 1 or 2 and  you should get some strikes.  I've had some great mornings over there catching small trout with an occasional 20-21" fish thrown in for some excitement.  But the bite seems to be either  early morning or late afternoon.  The wading is easy as the beach is a gentle slope with a deeper channel that comes within an easy cast from someone wading out 20' into the water.  This channel is filled with grass and that is where you will find the trout.  I've caught trout, flounder, croaker, stipers, and a ray from the beach.  The plan is to travel over in a group early and then stay as long as the fishing/catching continues.  If you want to go, please post a reply to this stream so we can get a feel for how many will be going.  I will be the point of contact and my cell phone is 757-681-0328 for any last minute adjustments and wx advisories.  Thanks and tight lines to all, mike buss
