OBX Wading Trip

How did the Outer Banks trip go?

I wound up at the Wild River Outfitters Kayak event Saturday AM.  They put on a very good show.  I can think of serveral kayaks I'd like to own.  I ran into a bunch of people I haven't seen in a while.  Cory Ruth was there; his new Kayak fishing book is being printed now.  It should be on bookstore shelves soon. Also, saw Mike Marsala; that was handy because I needed an accurate phone number for his guide service to update our list.

I'd highly recommend  the event for anyone remotely interested in kayaks, canoes and small boat fishing.  The $5 donation is a bargain.

Re: OBX Wading Trip

I would like to hear, too, as I might be down there with family this weekend.  I kinda heard some got some fish and some did not (usual in fishing) but have no details.

Re: OBX Wading Trip

I talked with Ed this afternoon and he said the wind was very strong (what's new for the Outer Banks, the Wright Brothers picked it for some reason!) but it layed down somewhat around 10 am and they were able to get out.  Fishing was slow as the water temp was a little cold.  Had 4 club members including Ed.  He had brought his boat and one of the OB members had a boat and took Jack and Arlene out in his boat and they caught some fish.  Ed took one of our new members out, but they didn't have much luck.  I plan on going down this Thurs early am, returning early pm and fishing Prop Slough and Bodie Is Lighthouse area.  Ed said the ob guys said the best fishing had been around Bodie Is Lighthouse and that is probably where I'll start.  If anyone wants to join me, give me a call or send me an email.  Thanks and tight lines to all, mike

Re: OBX Wading Trip

The fishing was very slow.  Wind was strong in the morning and heavily limited where we could fish.  It did die down a little later but I think a combo of cool water temperatures and very dirty water made things tough even after the wind was gone.  Jack and Arlyne were on a boat with Greg from the outer banks club and they managed blues and a couple trout (mostly on spinning rods I think?).

Even though conditions were tough it was fun just to get out there.  It was my first timing fishing down there and Ed did an awesome job of showing me around.  Couldn't have had a better guide for the day.  Thanks again Ed!

Re: OBX Wading Trip

After hearing the fishing reports and the fact the water was a little too cold, think I will postpone my trip down to ob till next Thurs.  Will be leaving early am and returning mid afternoon.  Anyone wishing to go along, let me know, thanks and tight linesmike
